OUR HISTORY

The Retired Engineering Luncheon was organized by George Harrison and Henry Gleim. The first luncheon was held at Snyder's Willow Grove Restaurant on June 19, 1984, and was attended by a grand total of 45 retirees.

Unfortunately, in May, 2014, Snyder's was inundated by flood waters from the Patapsco River and was forced to close. The Luncheon Committee searched diligently for a new location and selected The Olive Grove Restaurant. The first luncheon at the new location was on October 7, 2014.

By 1986, the committee had grown to include Hank Kaiss, John W. Smith, and Guy Tracey who had been recruited to prepare name tags for each luncheon. Guy served as the name tag maker for many years.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Mickey Allen, Bob Stadter, Jim Mathis, and Jack Harrison became members of the committee.

On April 2nd 2019 was the First Combined  Retired Telco and Engineering Luncheon.

Today the Combined luncheon is held at Matthews 1600 in Catonsville.

The first Telephone Retirees “Annual” Luncheon was in 1978 and combined with the

engineering retirees in 2019.

.

Today there is a Contact List of about 700 retirees maintained by the committee. Each person on the list is contacted by telephone several weeks prior to the scheduled luncheon date by a volunteer caller or by email. If you prefer to be contacted by email only, advise your luncheon committee by sending email to... c.clift1@verizon.net.

If you would like to be a volunteer caller, give your name to any committee member in person or email it to them (see the Contact Us page on this website) and your name will be added to the Volunteer Callers List.

After reaching a high of about 140 attendees in the 1990s, the average attendance dipped below 50 in 2012 and 2013. With the addition of 12 new names, the April 2014 gathering enjoyed a rebound to 67 attendees.

All eligible retirees are welcome to have their names added to our Contact List. The eligibility requirements are noted above.

The committee encourages those currently on the Contact List to make their retiree friends aware of the luncheons.
